Star Screen Technology for Demanding Soil ProcessingBackers delivers the fifth star screen machine to J+B Küpers: a wheel-mobile 2-fraction machine with 140 kW and up to 200 m³ throughput per hour.
With the delivery of a new wheel-mobile 2-fraction star screen (type: 2-ma), J+B Küpers is expanding its machinery fleet for professional soil processing. Just a few months earlier, the company took delivery of a tracked 2-fraction star screen (type: 2-ta). Both machines were manufactured by Backers and exemplify a machine concept that combines high performance, efficient material processing, and flexible application options.
Five machines in a 30-year partnershipThe two new additions are part of a partnership between Backers and J+B Küpers that has lasted around 30 years. In total, the star screen technology specialist has delivered five machines to the company. For Backers, this partnership holds special significance: although the company markets its screening technology worldwide, this long-standing customer is located only about twelve kilometres from the factory in Twist."Long-term customer relationships only develop when machines perform convincingly in daily operation and we respond flexibly to individual requirements," says Managing Director Christian Backers. "Every application brings different requirements. That is why we tailor our star screens to the respective area of application together with our customers." This collaborative approach is evident in the close coordination with the customer. Depending on the application, the machines are optimally configured and equipped to meet specific requirements. Furthermore, Backers accommodates individual customer preferences—from technical details to custom paintwork. For instance, J+B Küpers opted for a version in its corporate red color instead of the standard Backers yellow. Tracked or wheel-mobile: comparing the technologyTechnically, the two delivered machines differ primarily in their mobility. The tracked 2-ta is particularly suitable for changing locations and challenging terrain directly on construction sites. The wheel-mobile 2-ma demonstrates its strengths wherever quick relocations on paved surfaces are required. Both machines operate according to Backers' proven 2-fraction star screening principle and are powered by a diesel-hydraulic drive with an engine output of 140 kW. Featuring a screen deck size of 6,700 × 1,200 mm, the machines are designed for high throughput capacities and cost-effective material processing.Strong with cohesive and moist materialsA particular strength of Backers star screen technology lies in processing cohesive, moist, and difficult-to-screen materials. While many other screening methods reach their limits under these conditions, the star screening principle ensures reliable material separation and consistently high screening quality even with sticky soils. As a result, the machines operate largely independent of weather conditions and enable economical operation even after rainfall or with wet material.Throughput capacities of up to 200 m³ per hour enable efficient processing even of large material volumes. High discharge heights also facilitate the feeding of downstream processes or the creation of suitably sized stockpiles. Integrated remote maintenance supports fast service and helps to minimize potential downtime. Applications in earthworks, soil processing, and recycling"Our core competence is star screen technology," explains Christian Backers. "For over 35 years, we have been continuously developing this process and specializing in applications where high throughput rates, reliable material separation, and economical processes are required."The application possibilities extend far beyond traditional soil processing. Star screens from Backers are used in processing both mineral and organic materials. Whether in earthworks, soil processing, or recycling—the key factors are the well-conceived machine concept, high flexibility, and the ability to adapt each machine optimally to its specific field of application. A partnership with a perspectiveFor J+B Küpers, investing in modern technology represents another step in the continuous expansion of its machinery fleet. The company aims to meet the high demands of its customers across all business areas and views Backers as a partner that understands these requirements and develops suitable technical solutions. This latest investment underscores J+B Küpers' long-standing trust in Backers star screen technology and continues a partnership that has existed for around three decades. At the same time, it reinforces Backers' position as a specialist in high-performance star screen technology and demanding screening applications in earthworks, soil processing, and recycling.
