TO INCREASE THE THROGHPUT OF A GRANULATOR A SCREW CONVEYOR IS UTILIZED FOR A TECHNICALLY NEUE HERBOLD Maschinen- und Anlagenbau GmbH, D-74889 Sinsheim-Reihen offers a large range of machines and plants for size reduction and recycling of plastics scrap, from production or waste collection. To increase the through-put rate of a granulator used for size reduction of loose, unpressed plastics a force feeding technique was developed. A screw conveyor is utilized for a technically optimized material feed. Via conveyor the material is fed in the feed hopper. The transport to the grinding chamber is now no longer only based on the principle of gravitation - in fact the material is now fed to the grinding chamber by one / or more vertically assembled screws. Depending on the required granulator size the number of screws, the rotation speed as well as the drive capacity can vary. Coperion has equipped its ZSK 18 MEGAlab laboratory extruder with numerous new functions that provide significantly greater flexibility and safety in handling Pluggable cartridge heaters instead of hard wired ones now allow for rapid barrel reconfiguration as well as straightforward cartridge heater exchange. An electrically securable maintenance door on the gearbox lantern increases operational safety and at the same time provides quick access, reducing downtimes for screw changes and system maintenance. Moreover, feeders for this laboratory machine can now be placed on a newly developed patent-pending feeding platform which allows up to four feeders to be arranged with maximum flexibility for adding ingredients in myriad ways. The ZSK 18 MEGAlab, with a screw diameter of 18 mm, has a specific torque of 11.3 Nm/cm³ and achieves a maximum rotation speed of 1,200 min-1. Goudsmit Magnetics (Waalre, Netherlands) has developed a new pipe magnet that requires half the installation height of its predecessor and is also twice as strong. Manufactured entirely from stainless steel, the magnetic separator contains a core of neodymium (NdFeB) magnets and creates a flux density of 12,000 gauss. The conical-shaped magnet core contains more pole plates, so even 30 µm particles stick to more engagement points. This results in a higher degree of separation and also makes it possible to capture smaller metal particles in addition to coarse ones. Steel particles present in the product flow such as bolts, nuts, washers, screws, small metal balls, broken threads and clips can be effortlessly separated from grains, corn, flour, wheat flour and other incoming goods flows. The new magnet system is suitable not only for mounting in free-fall pipes, but also for pressure pipes. The stainless steel bullet magnet can be used in food but also other industries.
