Aluminium processing in confined spaces High grade purity despite impurities: Innovative complete plant with three operating modes safely filters recycled aluminium from difficult input material
Aluminium processing in confined spaces
High grade purity despite impurities: Innovative complete plant with three operating modes safely filters recycled aluminium from difficult input material According to statistics from the German industrial credit bank AG (IKB), global production of primary aluminium increased by 3.1 per cent to 65.3 million tonnes in 2020. In addition, around 11.8 million tonnes of the light metal were recycled. Especially in the case aluminium scrap, grade purity plays a major role for subsequent processability. In order to be able to sell the purest material possible on to aluminium processing companies, and thus most profitably, an Austrian company needed new equipment for crushing and separating different input materials. The challenge: The aluminium dust and aluminium alloys with magnesium admixtures produced during the crushing process are highly flammable, so there is an acute risk of fire and explosion in the plant. To ensure the safety of the machines and the employees at all times, the company cooperated with Erdwich Zerkleinerungs-Systeme GmbH. The experienced company from Igling in Bavaria implements a special plant concept…

Recycling of filter materials Shredding in very confined spaces: Specially configured plant reduces volume of layered filter residues by more than 90 percent
Recycling of filter materials
Shredding in very confined spaces: Specially configured plant reduces volume of layered filter residues by more than 90 percent Filter layers perform complex tasks in the chemical, food and life science industries by removing a wide variety of particles from liquids, depending on the purpose for which they are used. For example, they ensure that the cork taste disappears from wine and turbidity from beer and are used to purify extracts or fermentation broths that are subsequently processed in the flavouring industry or for pharmaceutical purposes. ”To achieve this effect, the filter layers used for depth filtration consist of a cellulose or polymer fibre matrix,” explains Dennis Haag, Head of Engineering and Maintenance, at FILTROX AG. ”The matrix is enriched with mineral filter aids and bonded together via a resin binder.” Confined space requires modification of the shredder Although the material thickness of the filter layers is only between 3.2 and 4.6 mm on average, the efficient shredding of the materials is a challenge. ”Since the filter layers consist of a very dense, fibrous…

Environmental protection in Antarctica: Erdwich Two-Shaft Shredder
Two-Shaft Shredder reduces waste volume by 80 per cent at German research station GARS O’Higgins Those working at the GARS O’Higgins research station, which is operated by the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Antarctica, are often cut off from the outside world for months at a time: The inhospitable and extreme weather conditions, especially in winter, only allow larger transports in the summer months – a fact which also applies to waste disposal. Previously, this was collected as loose material in containers and, after several months a considerable volume accumulated, which placed further pressures on the already limited space at the station. For this reason, DLR decided to install a waste shredding system and commissioned Erdwich Zerkleinerungs-Systeme GmbH from Igling in Bavaria to undertake this. The company has been developing and constructing systems for shredding a wide variety of materials for more than 40 years and, thanks to its many years of experience with the M450/2-360 twin-shaft shredder, it had the right machine at the ready. The low-maintenance…

Technical Manager Florian Böhm-Feigl joins the top management team
Hans Erdwich retires after more than 30 years in the company’s management team. Erdwich Zerkleinerungs-Systeme GmbH from Igling in Bavaria has a new top management: Florian Böhm-Feigl has been Managing Director of Erdwich Zerkleinerungs-Systeme GmbH since 01.02.2021. He thus replaces the long-serving Managing Director Hans Erdwich, who has retired. Together with Managing Director Harald Erdwich and Procurement officer Reinhard Hirschmiller, he now is part of the new management trio at Erdwich. The graduate engineer (FH) for environmental and process engineering joined Erdwich in 2007, initially as a project manager. In 2015, he was appointed Technical Manager and was primarily responsible for major international projects and in-house development at Erdwich. With his many years of experience and extensive industry knowledge, he is ideally equipped to help shape Erdwich’s future and continue to drive its global success. “I am delighted about the trust placed in me by the management and the associated opportunity to now be able to play an even…
