ValvoSeal Essential Ultrasonic Bag Welding

Not every filling system needs to be a custom solution

Why standardized systems are often the better choice in bulk material handling.

In industrial bulk material processing, custom-built solutions are often seen as the gold standard. Complex products, demanding processes and high requirements for efficiency and safety frequently lead to highly individualized machine concepts.
However, in practice, one thing becomes clear: a large share of applications follows recurring, well-defined patterns. This is exactly where standardized filling and bagging systems come into play.

Standard applications dominate the market

Whether powders, granules or free-flowing bulk materials – around 80% of industrial filling tasks operate within clearly defined parameters. Conveying systems, dosing principles and bag or container types are often very similar. For these applications, a fully customized system is usually not required – and often not the most economical choice. Instead, preconfigured and proven systems are gaining importance. All systems follow the same principle: clear configurations, reduced variant diversity and ready-to-use industrial technology.

Proven technology as a standard solution

With the ESSENTIAL LINE, Greif-Velox offers a clearly structured product range designed specifically for these standard applications. The systems are based on proven machine platforms that have been deliberately standardized and preconfigured in their ESSENTIAL versions.

Typical examples include:

  • VeloVac Essential – a vacuum-based bagging system for dust-free and economical filling of powders and bulk materials
  • BVP Essential – a robust pneumatic packer for open-mouth bags and free-flowing products
  • R-DOS Essential – a standardized liquid filling system for drums and IBCs with clearly defined configuration options
  • ValvoSeal Essential – a valve bag sealing solution with ultrasonic welding, providing maximum safety during bagging and ensuring a reproducible, tight and tamper-resistant closure

Reduced to the essentials

Without compromising quality; ESSENTIAL systems are not “stripped-down” machines. They are purposefully focused on what really matters. Only proven components, standardized control concepts and clearly defined interfaces are used.
Especially for standard products, serial production or capacity expansions, this approach offers clear economic advantages. This results in:
  • significantly reduced engineering effort
  • shorter delivery times
  • easy integration into existing production lines
  • high process reliability and system availability

Less complexity means greater reliability

Another key benefit of standardized solutions is their high level of planning and cost certainty. Clearly defined specifications, predictable delivery times and proven workflows significantly reduce project risks. Service, spare parts management and operator training also benefit from standardization.

ESSENTIAL systems suitable for:

  • classic bulk material applications
  • international sites with limited engineering resources
  • projects with tight timelines or budgets
  • companies deliberately opting for robust standard technology

Conclusion: Not high-end at any price

Custom-engineered solutions remain essential for highly complex or sensitive applications. However, for many tasks, the following applies: simple, robust and economical is often the better solution.
Standardized filling and bagging systems such as the ESSENTIAL LINE demonstrate that modern packaging technology does not have to be rocket science – it simply has to work reliably.

Smart technology against unplanned downtime
According to a recent study by Deutsche Messe Technology Academy and Moxa, unplanned downtime is one of the biggest challenges facing industry. Downtime as a major cost factor in industry A recent study by the Deutsche Messe Technology Academy in cooperation with automation specialist Moxa provides insights into the reality of industrial production in Germany: 94 percent of the companies surveyed report at least one unplanned shutdown per month, with an average downtime of 3.3 hours. The effects are serious: according to the study, even one hour of production downtime can cause costs in the millions—especially in highly automated processes. The economic consequences range from missed delivery dates and increased personnel deployment to damage to the company’s reputation among customers. The study cites the following causes of unplanned downtime as particularly common: Main causes of production downtime * Failure of machine components or IT systems * Lack of transparency regarding the condition of the equipment * Difficulties and delays in procuring spare parts The consequences are well known: inefficiency,

Sustainable Vacuum Technology for Modern Production Processes
GREIF-VELOX presents the new DryVac dry-running pump, which enables energy savings up to 70%. Energy and resource efficiency have become critical factors in modern industrial production—especially when handling ultra-light powders such as carbon black, silica, or color pigments. With the launch of its new GREIF-VELOX DryVac dry-running pump, the German engineering company introduces a forward-looking vacuum solution that combines economic efficiency, sustainability, and operational reliability. Up to 70% less energy consumption Without Compromising Performance. Compared to conventional water ring pumps, the GREIF-VELOX DryVac reduces energy consumption by up to 70%, and even when compared to double diaphragm pumps, energy savings of over 50% are achievable. With a motor output of just 6.5 kW, the DryVac significantly reduces operating costs. A practical example: With an annual operating time of 8,000 hours and an average consumption of only 2.6 kW, the system can save up to €12,800 in energy costs per year—for example, during the bagging of silica.
