Smart Cut Guard: Hellweg expands granulator control at Fakuma
Hellweg Maschinenbau will present the Smart Cut Guard add-on at Fakuma 2026. The vibration sensor detects mill damage early and enables predictive maintenance in recycling operations.
Early damage detection using vibration sensors
At Fakuma 2026, Hellweg Maschinenbau is presenting the new Smart Cut Guard module. As an optional add-on to the Smart Control system, it measures machine vibrations via a sensor. The processed data provides early warning of issues such as defective bearings or blunt knives, allowing operators to extend maintenance intervals and plan repairs proactively.
Local integration and cloud service for continuous operation
The module can be integrated directly into the Smart Control unit. Alternatively, data can be automatically transferred to a cloud service with exclusive access for Hellweg. In the event of an alarm, the company contacts customers immediately, making this option ideal for granulators operating around the clock with high throughput.
Precise measurement enabled by low-vibration design
Managing Director Mark Hellweg highlights that vibrations damage cutting tools. Because Hellweg granulators run almost vibration-free due to heavy-duty construction and solid-machined rotors, vibration irregularities are detected at a very early stage. Operators can schedule interventions cost-effectively before consequential damage occurs.
Expanding the Smart Family for efficient size reduction
In addition to Smart Cut Guard, the system includes the Smart Sonic module for ultrasonic material flow measurement and Smart Flow for non-contact microwave monitoring. Together, these modules form an intelligent system designed to increase throughput and energy efficiency while maximizing process reliability.
