VEGA and akenza join forces to deliver end-to-end IoT solutions

Schiltach, Germany / Zurich, Switzerland. VEGA Grieshaber KG, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of industrial measurement technology, is acquiring Akenza AG, a Swiss enterprise IoT platform vendor.
VEGA, a measurement technology manufacturer based in Schiltach, Germany, is acquiring the Swiss company Akenza AG, headquartered in Zurich. With this strategic move, VEGA combines more than 60 years of experience in industrial process automation with akenza’s proven IoT expertise. The goal is to offer customers end-to-end, scalable IoT solutions from a single source in the future.

VEGA is a family-owned company with more than 2,800 employees worldwide and a market presence in over 80 countries. Its sensors for level, point level, and pressure measurement, as well as the associated hardware and software, are used in industries such as chemicals, food and beverages, pharmaceuticals, water and wastewater management, and mining.

Akenza specializes in IoT solutions and provides Smart Industry and Smart Corporate Real Estate deployments for global organizations. Its agnostic platform enables the seamless connection of devices and systems and has proven itself across a wide range of applications.
By combining their expertise, VEGA and akenza are creating the foundation for innovative, scalable, and end-to-end IoT solutions across the entire value chain.

From sensor data to intelligent decision

For VEGA, the acquisition represents an expansion of its digital portfolio and another step in the growth of its Industrial IoT business segment. For akenza, this new chapter opens the opportunity to leverage VEGA’s global presence and expertise across manufacturing and industry, as well as to further scale its own IoT solutions.
“This step is an important milestone on the path to achieving our long-term strategic goals. VEGA's sensor technology and akenza's technology-agnostic, horizontal IoT platform complement each other perfectly. Together, we close the gap between data collection and its use for informed decisions. We are very much looking forward to welcoming the akenza team to VEGA and taking the next step together. This opens new opportunities for our customers to make their processes even more efficient and transparent,” says Isabel Grieshaber, Managing Partner of VEGA Grieshaber KG.

“VEGA gives us the global reach and the foundation to elevate akenza to a new international level. Together, we're cutting through the complexity of the IoT, allowing enterprise customers to seamlessly connect hardware to action. We will continue to expand use cases in the Smart Industry sector, and keep growing our Smart Building vertical with the agility our customers value", says Jonas Schmid, Co-CEO of Akenza AG.
Going forward, both partners will pool their expertise and gradually integrate the akenza platform into VEGA’s expanded range of solutions. akenza will continue to operate independently in the market and maintain its existing customer relationships. Both companies view this as the beginning of a long-term, value-driven partnership.

Old tyres become new raw materials
Pyrum plant sets standards in industry 4.0. In Dillingen, in the heart of the Saarland steel district, PYRUM Innovations turns old tyres into new raw materials Oil, recovered carbon black and gas are generated in the process and fed back into industry. This is the result of 15 years of hard work, a green entrepreneurial spirit and Industry 4.0, in order to ensure stable control of all processes. VEGA sensors are also a vital component, as they perform reliable monitoring of all levels and pressures. In the beginning was the idea. Someone had obviously taken a close look and not only realised that there was a huge problem, but also set out to find a solution. The problem came to a head around 2008, when the sheer volume of scrap tyres became unmanageable and no sensible use for them could be found. Piled high, they sometimes caught the eye in temporary storage in tyre workshops, but time and again one could see them piled up in the driveways of farms or lying abandoned on the roadside. Anyone who has a car probably wonders from time to time what happens to the tyres they have just replaced, as over three million tonnes…

VEGA at IFAT 2026
Stable measured values for a resilient water industry. From 4 to 8 May 2026, at IFAT in Munich, booth C1.239, VEGA will be showing state-of-the-art level and pressure instrumentation. Extreme weather events, increasing demands on drinking water quality and ever more complex wastewater processes are putting operators under increasing pressure. A sustainable and resilient water and wastewater infrastructure therefore needs one thing above all else: reliable measurement data, even under difficult conditions. From 4 to 8 May 2026, at IFAT in Munich, booth C1.239, VEGA will be showing how state-of-the-art level and pressure instrumentation helps to keep processes stable and efficient over the long term. Interactive demonstrations at the exhibition stand illustrate the capabilities of the sensors under realistic operating conditions. One focus is on wastewater treatment. Precise and stable measured values are indispensable in all process stages: from inflow via pumping stations to sedimentation and aeration to sludge dewatering and effluent control. Even in the presence of foam, vapours, buildup or changing media conditions, VEGA sensors deliver…

Copper recycling: good for the environment and the economy
The processing of copper scrap involves many precisely coordinated processes. When it comes to level instrumentation, Montanwerke Brixlegg relies on radar technology from VEGA. Very few companies can look back on over 550 years of company history. The Brixlegg copper-silver smelter appeared in documents for the first time in 1463. Copper and silver ores were mined there and refined into pure metals up until the 20th century. Since 1890, secondary materials containing copper have been increasingly used as raw materials instead of ores. “While the challenges back then were for the most part exclusively mining problems, today they are much broader. We are now responsible for maintaining a positive interplay between people, the environment and the economy,” explains Patrick Oberladstätter, Head of Electrical Engineering at Montanwerke Brixlegg in Tyrol. Today, Montanwerke Brixlegg AG is a 100 % upcycling company with more than 350 employees and one of the most important industrial operations in western Austria. The plant in Brixlegg is considered a specialist in copper recycling and the associated copper refining. But there is more to it:…
